RIP Charles Gwathmey now, too.
This was written before Gwathmey's death, about Yale's Rudolph Hall (previously the Art & Architecture building). It was pretty much my favorite Rudolph building, and thereby also my favorite building on campus. Then Yale decided to adjoin a new history of art building, the Loria Center, and Gwathmey's design won.
It's not one of his finest, you could say.
It pretty much mucked up the carefully planned flow of Rudolph Hall, and looked cheap and plastic next to Rudolph's rough concrete walls. Thus, my favorite building was marred.
Gwathmey was a pretty great architect otherwise, though! And we'll all probably come to like Loria eventually, anyway.
